"Boost Your Business With E-mail Marketing"
by Erik Kent, Co-Publisher, NJWedding.com

Email is widely used as a means of communication in today's world. What are some ways a wedding professional can use it for marketing? When used properly to help promote your wedding business, there are 3 main results of effective E-mail marketing:

1) Obtain a new client
2) Maintain relationship with existing clients
3) Turn a one-time visitor into a long-term client

When using E-mail as a main source to communicate with potential clients, here are 5 important factors to consider:

1) Know your outcome (motivate person to respond, visit web site, set appointment)
2) Analyze "From" and "Subject" line (5-8 words) so it draws attention and is clear
3) Make it personal (using pertinent info about the prospective client)
4) Be professional using correct capitalization, grammar, spelling
5) Respond quickly to email inquiries and follow up consistently (have a plan)

In a recent survey of wedding professionals, E-mail was a popular way to initiate contact with an engaged couple. Below are the questions and answers about E-mail marketing:

Q1) When you receive a new "lead," what is the process you use to introduce your services to brides (and do you include the grooms, too)?

A1) Most wedding professionals send a personal E-mail to bride (and groom, if applicable ) introducing their service based on the client's needs (if known). Many describe in detail what the client would receive (so client can review the information at their own pace).

Q2) How often and when (i.e. time of the day) do you contact them?

A2) Most contact is made immediately upon receiving E-mail inquiry or within 24 hours.

Q3) Do you use regular E-mail or an automated program to send E-mails?

A3) Most use regular E-mail. Some use autoresponders to alert people to specials & events.

Q4) What has been your response to E-mail Marketing so far (i.e. return phone calls, appointments, bookings)?

A4) Most have low to medium response on E-mail only, but combined with follow up phone calls and direct mail, there is much higher opportunity for appointments and bookings.

Q5) In what other ways do you use E-mail in your business (i.e. newsletters, regular communication with clients, sales/service)?

A5) Most wedding professionals use E-mail regularly for client communication, answering questions, sending contracts, documents, etc. Also used as excellent follow-up tool after introductory meeting.

The Bottom Line: Using E-mail as a technology "tool," it helps you "connect" with a client and serve them efficiently and effectively, turning them into "raving fans" that want to refer you to other new clients! Most couples are using the Internet and E-mail to find and communicate with wedding professionals, so communicate effectively with them and you'll boost your business!
