5 Reasons People Dance at Weddings and Social Events

“Human beings probably danced even before there was a word for it. Rhythmic bodily movement is instinctive. It connects people, even if unconsciously, to the rhythms of nature. Dance springs from a human desire for personal expression and social connection, and it feels good. People dance for all kinds of reasons – to mourn, to celebrate, to heal, to give thanks, to preserve cultural heritage and treasured legends, to demonstrate physical prowess, to assert individuality, to provoke and to entertain.  Almost anyone can dance, regardless of age or ability.”

Here are some reasons why people dance at Private Events…

Tradition

Wedding receptions celebrate the joining of two individuals and the coming together of families. In many cultures, there is the “mother-son,” “father-daughter” and of course the symbolic dance of the “bridal couple.”  For those who do not like the spotlight, this can create anxiety, and being more prepared helps alleviate this. There are many local dance studios that help couples with their “first dance.” Some couples take it to the next level with a fun and fantastic dance routine of their own.

Then, as almost a supportive act of solidarity, family and friends gather around and dance together. Selection of the right music is important and having a good DJ who understands the flow, audience, and musical tastes of the couple and their guests is important.

Fun

When the beat of the music kicks in, the lights begin to flash, and a crowd of happy people gather, there is nothing more natural than moving in sync to the melodies of good songs. In fact, if you look carefully, it is hard not to smile when you’re on the dance floor. You may even want to incorporate some professional dancers to help liven up the event.  Check out www.amiramor.com

Bonding

Have you noticed that even during more “serious” corporate events, after an hour or so, when people are comfortable talking to each other, they will inevitably dance in small or larger groups if there is a DJ or live music playing.  It creates camaraderie among co-workers. When you dance together, you work well together.

Celebration

Whether it’s picking up the bridal couple or Bar/Bat Mitzvah girl/boy in a chair, a Jewish tradition called “The Hora”, dancing cheek to cheek with your sweetheart, holding hands in a big circle and moving around the dance floor, or letting loose with party supplies, when you are dancing, you are celebrating being together.  “Partying” and “dancing” go together.

Nostalgia

Dancing brings out the kid in all of us.  The free-spirit.  It is how we relive the fun-filled days of our youth. It is our tribute to those who jitterbugged at sock hops in the 1950’s. It is the chance to be a princess again, waiting for an out-stretched hand and the call to a romance that is graceful, true, and not as forgotten as the cynics say.  When we dance, we remember...
