Selecting the Right Entertainment Company | Xplosive Entertainment

Special event planning can be daunting but there is one factor that just can’t be overlooked for your event. Even industry professionals agree party entertainment is critical. If the catering fails to live up to the tasting; the venue décor wasn’t right; or the rain washed away your plan for an outdoor cocktail hour your event entertainment can help make it right. So, with knowing the importance of your party entertainment, how do you pick the right entertainment company for your special event?  Cost is certainly a huge factor but, buyer beware, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is!

A good starting point is to do your homework and get referrals from family and friends as well as through online reviews. For referrals by word of mouth either through family, friends, or your other event professionals make sure that the person giving these names are people who understand your event vision. Another option, is to see the entertainers in action by visiting event showcases. Unfortunately, not every entertainment company is completely honest about their services, qualifications, etc.  So read carefully through the reviews and look for ones that are highly personal and descriptive of the services performed.  It’s easy to write a quick review saying you were pleased, but truly impressed clients go out of their way to write full lengthy descriptive reviews showing their real appreciation for the services rendered. These are key points ensure that the reviewers are in fact past clients (not just self-written internal reviews).  You should notice a common thread from reviewers in their comments about their experiences.

No two entertainment companies are the same. Despite the fact that Company A and B seem to have similar equipment, how they manage, handle, and stage their services can be very different. For example, look to see if the DJ booth facades look neat and clean and if they’re hiding wires and mess.  Do they ensure that the lighting, video display, and their personal attire are in line with the vision for your day? These are part of what makes up the pricing for an entertainment company.  It’s also one of the biggest factors that prove the company prides itself in it’s work and stays ahead of industry trends.  In selecting the right MC or host for your event, make sure that person is eloquent, energetic, and interesting. The personality and experience level of the person on the microphone dictates the tone of your event. Those traits are the core of how entertainment companies calculate their cost. More talented professionals command higher rates.

A number of our entertainers are top talents in their industry. For example, we have DJ’s and MC’s who have worked with celebrity clients and at some of the hottest nightclubs in NYC, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. So, pricing for those entertainers is reflective of their talent, professionalism, and experience. In discussing the topic with another industry professional he made the comparison of seeing Les Miserable in NYC on Broadway versus a High School production. Despite the fact that the scripts are the same and the music is the same, the two shows end up being very different. The quality of the performers, sets, lighting, orchestra, are all reflected in the price of the ticket.
