When Do I Order My Wedding Cake?

When Do I Order My Wedding Cake?

Most of the bridal timeline checklists that I’ve seen recommend meeting with or booking a custom wedding cake baker about 4-5 months before the wedding date.  Is this a realistic time frame?

Depending on when you’re getting married, it might not be.    The most popular months to get married are April through October.  Like other vendors, a good baker will book popular dates very quickly.  Especially so if the baker accepts only one wedding cake per date, like me.

So when should you order your custom wedding cake? I can’t speak for other baker’s calendars, but a time frame of 6-12 months is not unusual for my date book.   If you don’t have all the details of your wedding yet (invitations, flowers, dresses), not to worry.  You can (and should) start to research wedding cake bakers as soon as possible.   The research and selection process of finding a quality, experienced wedding cake baker can take time.   You may wish to start the process around the same time you reserve your venue.   This will allow sufficient time for a cake designer/baker to work with you to achieve the perfect look for your cake and the exact flavor profile you desire.  The most important consideration is reserving your date with someone you want to work closely with.  After all, your wedding cake is as personal as your dress.  It is the centerpiece of your wedding reception.

More couples are choosing to move away from the wedding cake that is included in the caterer’s package in favor of something more personal and far more delicious so you’ll want to make sure you snag your favorite baker quickly.

How do I choose a wedding cake or custom cake baker?  Stay tuned!
